| Ansal API Lucknow finds its amateur team Bharath Thapar, Raghav Jaggi and Subhash Chandra qualify for Ansal API Lucknow amateur team
Lucknow, 22nd January, 2012: Over the weekend, Lucknow Golf Club saw over 100 amateur golfers vie for a place in the Ansal API Lucknow amateur team that will represent the city in India's richest domestic golf event - the Louis Philippe Cup. With sustained good performances across two days, Bharat Thapar, Raghav Jaggi and Subhash Chandra have booked their berths in the Ansal API Lucknow team that will carry the city's hopes in the Louis Philippe cup, scheduled to commence on 5th March, 2012 at the Karnataka Golf Association, Bangalore. The IPL-style event, with its Rs.1.20 crores prize money and city-based teams is expected to change the way fans relate to golf in India. With competition spread across day 2, it was a test of endurance for the participating golfers. Day 1 ended with a three-way tie between Sanjay Bhasin, Gaurav Agarwal, Arun Verma for the top spot. But day 2 saw some fine performances that changed the leader board. Bharath Thapar, playing off a handicap of 6 held his nerves over two days of tough golf to emerge victorious with a score of 38 points. Youngster Raghav Jaggi, played off a handicap of 5 and showed great determination in the face of tough competition but narrowly missed the first spot. He finished 1st runner up with a score of 37 points while veteran golfer Subhash Chandra, with a handicap of 12, turned in a fine performance to secure the last spot on the ANSAL API Lucknow amateur team with a score of 34 points. The club qualifiers held at the Lucknow Golf Club on the 20th and 21st January was the only qualifier for the Ansal API Lucknow amateur team, with the top 3 golfers getting a chance to play alongside veteran pro golfers Vijay Kumar and Sanjay Kumar in the Louis Philippe Cup on the 6th and 7th of March for the pro-am trophy. For a young, upcoming golfer like Raghav Jaggi this presents a great opportunity to hone his skills by playing alongside the best golfers of India. With the Ansal API Lucknow amateur team for Louis Philippe Cup finalized, the team is looking forward to the competition set to commence in March.
